NEUSE BAPTIST ASSOCIATION (NC) DISMISSES "ARMINIAN" CHURCHES

Image
The Neuse Baptist Association, in North Carolina, was a Regular Baptist association (Calvinist). I cannot find the date of their formation, but the earliest minutes I can find are for 1794. In that year, it was "discovered" that "part" members of Swift Creek Church " lies undercensure of Armenianism ", and the Association sent two elders to inquire about it. The next year's minutes states " that half or rather a majority, hold a universal provision made by Christ for the salvation of all mankind.  The association resolved to bear with the church one more year, to "reclaim" them form their "error" Then in 1797 the minutes state; " After enquiring into the state of the church in Johnston County, Swift Creek under pastoral care of Rev. John Moore, they holding armenian principles, and every means of use to reclaim them, proves ineffectual  : resolved that as a fellowship cannot be regained, that this association withdraw from...

UNITED BAPTIST ASSOCIATION (GA) NOT CALVINIST

In A brief History of the Georgia State Association (Free Will Baptists) it says the following;   "The origins of Free Will Baptists in Georgia lie within an early nineteenth-century movement known as United Baptists . This group arose as a result of the preaching of Cyrus White, and others, that put them at odds with the majority in the Georgia Baptist Convention. In 1829, White published the booklet, A Scriptural View of the Atonement, in which he argued for universal atonement. He and those associated with him also defended human responsibility and opposed unconditional election. When the Baptist establishment demonstrated intolerance of their “free will” views, they founded their own association of churches in 1831 and took the name United Baptists.* (When they say the "majority in the Georgia Baptist Convention" t his would include those Non Calvinists who held to eternal security) In choosing this name they deliberately identified themselves with the m...

ABINGTON BAPTIST ASSOCIATION (PA) CALVINIST MAYBE?

Image
The Abington Baptist Association, formed in 1807, evidently was formed without much assistance from the Philadelphia Association. In fact, the Abington Assn. didn't even open correspondence with the Philadelphia Association. They chose very simple articles of faith which were as follows;  "Holding the doctrines of three persons in one Godhead, the same in essence, equal in power, but different in office — the total depravity of mankind in their fallen estate — the free grace of God manifested in the recovery of those that believe in Christ — final perseverance of saints from grace to glory — baptism by immersion — the resurrection of the dead — final judgment and the condemnation of the finally impenitent to as long duration as the happiness of the righteous."    In my research, I believe the term "free grace" referred to Calvinism 200 years ago, while the term "free salvation" referred to Non Calvinism or Provisionism. I am perfe...
