HOSTILE TAKEOVER OF THE SBC BY REFORMED CALVINISTS
The "takeover" of the SBC by Calvinists, Reformed Calvinists I might add, began in earnest in 1997. In that year the "Passion" movement begun by Louie Giglio, the liar, who uses the Westminster Confession as Passion City Church's statement of faith, (I guess the London Baptist Confession wasn't "Reformed" enough) boldy stated that his brand of Calvinism was going to "reach a generation for Jesus" and declared "our movement will reinvigorate the churches, and bring scores of unreached youth into our churches". Well has that happened? Let's see.
Baptisms in the SBC of those under the age of 25 are as follows for the last 25 years
1998 389,769
2003 371,850
2008 340,227
2013 246,442
2018 23,972
2020 20,902
Now do those statistics indicate that SBC churches have been "reinvigorated", or filled with young people? That is a WHOPPING 95% DROP!
In the last 15 years, the SBC has lost over 4,000 churches. This is NOT the same decline as seen in the United Methodist and Episcopal Churches, as their losses were from churches that closed their doors. The loss in the SBC is from churches who PULLED OUT, and not closed. If the average membership in the churches that left were 200, that would mean 800,000 people. The trend of churches leaving is only increasing each year, while baptisms of young people will soon be zero.
As you can see, the promise of the Passion Movement never came to fruition. In fact, hidden in the "vaults" of the SBC leadership, is a survey/record of why each church left the Convention. The leadership wants us to believe that the SBC is merely suffering from the same slide as other denominations, which is a lack of interest in religion in a post Christian America. This is false. I am stating up front, that I cannot provide tangible proof of the statistics I am about to list. They came from a source who wishes to remain anonymous, and fears the loss of his job and ministry. I am not asking you to believe, and frankly, don't care whether or not you do. I have been dealing with churches and individuals over these issues for the last 5 years, and it tripled this past year. I believe the statistics are real.
Of the over 4000 churches who are no longer affiliated with the SBC, the statistics are as follows.
3% were kicked out over various infractions
6% left because of various scandals
The rest left because of "doctrinal differences"
18% left over "liberal shifts" in the SBC including CRT and Intersectionality, and Social Justice
73% left because of Reformed Calvinism infiltrating the ranks of churches, leadership and seminaries.
Now you do the math, and see if we should just stop talking about the issue at hand. There is a reason the Presbyterians were always the smallest in number of any church. In fact, at their height (the 1960's), only 2% of the population was ever Presbyterian, while Methodists were 8% (including all Wesleyan churches) and Baptists (including independents and SBC, African American conventions etc) ) were almost 20% of the population. I will leave you with a quote from a Calvinist himself, Charles Spurgeon. Today's Calvinists are nothing like him.
" A chasm is opening between the men who believe their Bibles and
those who are prepared for an advance upon the Scripture. . .The house
is being robbed, its very walls are being digged down, but the good
people who are in bed are too fond of the warmth. . .to go downstairs to
meet the burglars."
